I am a senior and Captain of the Varsity football team at Pomperaug High School in Southbury CT. As a Freshman, I started on JV and moved to Varsity Sophomore year for special teams also playing Running back. I have always been told I was too small or not fast enough. Instead of giving up, I took that energy and turned it into a challenge. In 2020, as most of us all had to sit the season out, I used that time to work everyday, 4 hours a day to work on my agility, to lift and to be the best I could be. I put on 50 pounds of muscle in the past couple of years, and have become a leader on our team. My coaches and my fellow teammates describe me best as someone who has the work ethic both on and off the field like no other. I encourage and help the underclassmen to be the best they can be through example and to not settle for average. I help lead the team to be the best through hard work, through sweat, and through whatever is thrown at us in order to win.
Hard work and determination isn’t lucky, you have to put in the work and if you don’t - then you won’t succeed. I do this everyday - and that is the definition of who I am.
This is why any football program would benefit from having me on their team, because I demonstrate:
-Leadership
-Team player
-Determination
-Work Ethic
-Perseverance
-Heart
Tell me I can’t and I will show you I can.
