The last three years has exposed my weaknesses and has highlighted my strengths. Football up to this point was always easy and fun for me. I began playing at the age of five at one of the most prominent top performing Pop Warner Associations in Jacksonville Florida. I was all over the field in on defense playing safety, corner and middle linebacker then on offense playing quarterback, and running back. At one time I was the go to kid until around the age of thirteen is when I call it a whisper from God asking me how bad do you want it? I became the smallest kid on my team, and the minimum play kid all because of my size and I found myself depressed, embarrassed and questioning God if football was really my calling. I never even thought of giving up even though I felt like the world was against me. After lab work and x rays it was discovered that I had a parathyroid that was prohibiting me from growing and gaining weight. After a scary surgical procedure and medication, me starting at 77lbs at 4’7 I began my comeback. Fast forward to my freshman year, new school, new opportunities, and a new bigger me. First game of Junior Varsity and the third play I caught a reception and was flung out of bounds and I fell and broke my arm in two places. I was devastated and out for the season once again I hear that small whisper how bad do you want it Aaren? I returned my sophomore year making some good highlights and focusing on my academics. Because of my adversities I am now hungrier, stronger, and more determined than ever. I am 5’9and 170lbs and still growing, and I know the sky is the limit and the best is yet to come from Aaren Sims “I know this is my calling”
My next level is playing college football while pursuing my broadcasting degree. Sports commentator, is where I see myself when I hang up my football cleats. But until then I plan to enjoy the journey!
