I attended Benedictine College, a perennial contender in the NAIA from Atchison, Kansas, under scholarship in the fall of 2019 as a redshirted freshman for coach Larry Wilcox, a legend at the college level within the NAIA, who now has over 300 career victories and is 14th on the all-time football coaching victory list. During the season, Coach Wilcox awarded me as the team’s defensive scout player of the week twice.
Unfortunately, I failed to strike a balance between football and class time and and got into trouble academically. Since then, I’ve attempted to take classes at the local Community College, but CLOVID-19 has sidelined much of this as well due to inconsistency in class delivery. I've been a good student in HS with a 3.0/4.0 GPA and received a 24 on the ACT and 1040 on the SAT and plan on taking additional classes in the spring, as classes are expected to be back in session.
I believe I’ve learned life lesson with the requirement of balancing my schoolwork with football. I still have interest in finding a program and would like to discuss potential options to continue to play. If I’m granted a second chance at this, I’ll bring a good attitude, listen well and bring it every day on and off the field.
HS Summary
I joined the football team in 10th grade because I liked the game and wanted to play. At that time I had no idea how much effort, both physically and mentally, is needed to succeed in this game. It requires a lot of hours on and off the field to learn where you fit and what you’re good at. Because it’s a game where it’s almost impossible to achieve on your own, it’s taught me teamwork. Because you need to get better on an on-going basis, it’s taught me discipline. And, because it’s a game where you learn from your mistakes, it’s taught me determination.
