Lakai Whatley '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Lakai Whatley, I'm a high school Junior at Gordon Central High school. I've been attending GCHS for my Sophomore and Junior years. My 11th grade season has been an experience for me. My first season as a Varsity starter in football, my fourth season as a Varsity wrestler, and first season as a part of the Track and field Varsity team. I've had my share of good and bad events this past football season. I stepped into a leadership role during our summer workouts and football camps, and carried this role into the beginning of our season, that was until my first injury of the season which is when I started to become lazy and fall behind, leading to the loss of my varsity spot. I didnt fight much to earn it back until we faced our cross time rivals, when one of the starting corners was injured, my defensive back coach stated,"I'm gonna put you in, dont dissapoint me, we need you." so I played my best game all season. I had many positives this game such as tackles for loss, deflected passes, and most importantly my first interception of the season which I returned for a touchdown. We finished the season with a 5-5 record, but I was proud of what we accomplished with such a young team and am definitely looking forward to next season. I have always dreamed to play sports after high school, since I was playing tee ball and running track in elementary school. I would love to go to college anywhere I am able to participate for any Varsity level sports they offer. While attending college i would like to major in either Business Management or Theatre.
