Personal Statement

My name is Jimmy Delaney and I am a senior at Waubonsie Valley High School. I was voted captain this year by my teammates in my senior season. This means a lot to me that my peers noticed my hard work and thought I would represent and lead the football team in a positive way. I have accepted and enjoyed the responsibilities that come with being a captain so far this season. I have been playing football ever since the third grade. I have continued to grow ever year not only as a football player but also as a man throughout each year. Right now I am 5'11, 180 pounds, and run a 4.6 40 yard dash time but I expect to become bigger and faster due to my work ethic in the weight room and my off the field training with my speed coach. When I am in the weight room my goal is to be the hardest worker not only in that weight room but be the hardest worker in weight rooms all over the country. I love to lead by example. I love it when after I'm done doing a work out people ask me about it and then they try it out. I'm not only about pushing myself to the extreme I'm also push my teammates to the extreme. After every day I ask myself was I the hardest worker today? Did I give my workout everything I had today? Did I better myself today? If I can honestly answer all of those questions with a yes then I know that I am taking the right steps to play football at the next level. Football is my love and my home. I love everything about the sport starting with the off season workouts, to the first day of practice, to the first game, to the final game and all of the other games inbetween. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else during the summer time than on a football field practicing. My favorite things in football, coming from a safety, include hitting a wide receiver over the middle and making him rethink if he wants to continue to catch the ball when he comes to my side of the field. Also I enjoy when I make a good read on the ball or have an excellent break on the ball which, results in an incomplete pass or an interception. Another thing I enjoy is making a nice form tackle on the ball carrier in the open field and preventing a big play. I take pride in helping my football team win back to back conference championships. I'm proud of my Academic All-Conference award that I received because it acknowledges my hard work in the classroom. Education has and always will be important to me but I do not have a particular school in mind. My ideal school would be somewhere located in the Mid West in driving distance so my family could continue to watch me play football. My ideal school would also offer advertising, broadcasting and journalism, criminal justice, or marketing as a major. The school size does not really matter to me, I'm open to any size. A quality education and receiving my degree is important to me and the division size is not that important to me, again I'm open to any school. My ultimate goal is to play football at the next level where ever that might be. The thought of not playing football is heart crushing to me because I love this sport so much. Thank you for looking at my profile.
