Personal Statement

I am a 6' 1" linebacker from Jacksonville, Illinois.  I have started on the Routt Catholic High School Varsity team for the last three years but earned a Varsity letter all four years.   I earned several awards for football my Junior Year and Senior Year:

WIVC All Conference Team (2 years) – Football,
Senior Team Captain - Football, All-Area Journal Courier 1st Team – Football, Defensive Captain – Football – Senior and  Junior Year, 4 year letter earner – Football, All-State Team – Honorable Mention in Football - 2011, Athlete of the Week – Football - voted by Routt Football Coaches - 10/2/11 and 10/16/11,Nominated for Male All-Academic Team- Football - Jacksonville Journal Courier

My current GPA is a 4.024 on a 4.0 scale and a 25 ACT score.

My leadership style is leading by example.  I run on and off the field in order to show that I am excited about being a part of the team.  I am always striving to improve myself in order to help the team and I do this by watching practice and game film on my home computer.  I was named Captain of my high school football team.  Last year and this year, I was the defensive captain on the field which was an honor given to me by our coaches.

I am looking for an institution where I can find the right balance between the classroom and field.  I would like to pursue a university with an outstanding academic reputation in the field of athletic training/kinesiology or exercise science.  Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I could make an immediate impact on the team.  I believe my best fit would be at the DII or NAIA level, although I will absolutely consider high academic DIII opportunities.  I would like to stay in the Mid -West if all possible; however, I would be willing to go to a different part of the country if indeed the univeristy is the best fit for me in regards to its academics and athletics.
