Hello my name is Max Chaffee, born 8-6-1999 I am 18 years old and graduate in 2018. I have been playing football and wrestling since I was 6 years old and my dream has always been attend a good college and play football. I learned early on through wrestling that it takes dedication and hard work to be good at anything. I have always been diligent about working out and training extra during sports seasons and during the off season. In football growing up I was always a running back and linebacker. In high school we can only play one or the other so I stuck with defense. I was outside linebacker and head hunter on kick offs. I started punting as well my freshmen year because everyone felt I had a natural power but 95% of the time I was on defense and was afforded no time for punt practice.
Every year I make and review a list of goals and plans to meet those goals with my parents and my wrestling coach who I am close with. During the spring of my junior year I did this and after an honest assessment of myself I made the difficult decision to not play defense and concentrate on punting. This was difficult because I love football and just punting means not much playing time as we have a good school who rarely punts. I also got a fair amount of grief from my fellow team mates because they thought I was taking the easy way out. In fact it meant that I had every day to focus and get better at punting and I was able to continue working out. The decision worked out as evidenced by my results from camps this spring. I won the punting portion of the following camps: Michigan / Notre Dame/ Ohio State and I placed 7th in the Kohl’s national competition. This earned me a 7th ranking in the nation as well as a spot playing for the East All American team in the Cowboys stadium 1-22-2018.
I am committed to improving and with only one year of consistent work I believe I will only get better. I understand work and plan to do everything I can to get better. I hope I get the opportunity to attend a college that gets me a good education and has a good football program that can push and guide me to the next level.
Sincerely,
Max Chaffee
