Personal Statement
There are many aspects within the field of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering that intrigue me and have always been of extreme interest to me. For one, the way in which Aircraft and Naval vessels operate, the components within an engine and how they work together to move the vehicle; additionally, the progression and evolution of Aircrafts throughout history is of great interest to me. It is for this reason, I enjoy reading and researching how we are continuously improving on the technology, which is used to help aircrafts perform more efficiently and effectively. In particular, the advent of the Concorde during the 1960s, which pushed technological limits like doubling speed of sound. New engineering milestones such as this are incredibly exciting. I am excited to see what the future holds and the impact I can make in the sector after my studies.
Studying a Cambridge Technical in Engineering and an A-level in Electronics have provided me with the skills to study Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering at university. Electronics has given me the ability to identify how circuits work and how different circuit components contribute to the desired outcome. Currently, my coursework has me engaging with two tasks, the first being the micro-controller task where I program a PIC chip using assembler language. The second task, focuses on building circuits which are based on an Astable. I wish to utilise these learned skills for complex electronic systems used by Aircrafts. Engineering has given me the ability to understand how Aircrafts can sustain flight. More importantly, the course has touched upon the mechanics of Engineering, in this we have covered a variety of topics one of them being SUVATs. SUVATs are a crucial part of Engineering as they focus on finding displacement, the initial and final velocities, acceleration of an object and the time taken to do these things. Additionally, I study Sociology A-level, it is a keen interest of mine to see how society works. In this course I have seen many perspectives on society which I find extremely interesting seeing things from an alternate view to mine. I have been able to engage in many extra-curricular activities, one of which is rugby. I currently play for my local club at the U18 level; additionally, I have been very successful in playing at a county standard for Sussex. I find rugby is incredibly helpful in maintaining humility and self-discipline. Rugby has given me the ability to be a very confident person and has taught me a lot of useful life skills such as leadership, I have been able to exercise these skills through captaincy, these skills will translate well in group projects at university. On top of this, I helped coach the year 9 rugby team throughout my final year of high school. Also, during this period, I participated in Duke of Edinburgh and I completed all my bronze expeditions,. Alongside my studies I work Argos, since working there, I have gained skills such as as team work, good communication skills and problem solving. Being a first-generation university applicant gives me great satisfaction, it is something which I hold highly, as does my family. I feel that getting to this point has been a very self-driven task but with great help from my family. My engagement and focus will be heightened because of this. Once I have achieved my degree, I would like to continue my professional development and go back and get an additional degree in Astro Engineering. Once achieving this I would like to go into research and hopefully get the opportunity to work on Satellites, As this has been my ambition from an early age. I am aware of the variety of paths that this degree will give me, and I am extremely motivated to excel in the field.
