To Whom it May Concern:
It is my goal to be an accomplished student and athlete for an outstanding college. I have hopes of attending at least a D2 college, but my options are still open at this time. I want to receive a quality education while continuing to play four years of sports. No matter where my final decision takes me, I will continue to have high expectations for myself and continue to strive for success. I have been building my accomplishments throughout my high school career and intend on using them to help me in my collegiate future.
My plans include working for the FBI oneday, therefore I would be needing a major in Sociology, Criminology, or Phychology. I have high expectations for myself and realize that it will take determination and hard work to accomplish these goals.
Some of my accomplishments include playing four years of football and lettering three times in the sport. I played five years of baseball and lettered four years out of the five. I participated in track for two years and lettered once. Some of my high school highlights include receiving 2nd team all-district linebacker, 119 tackles as a senior defensive player, defensive player of the year my senior year of football, and in baseball I received the Most Improved Player award during my sophomore year. I also received three Blue Collar awards during high school, which is a prestigious award given by the Head Coach. This baseball award is earned by having an outstanding work ethic and sacrificing above and beyond as an individual and a player.
I have accumulated statistics that demonstrate my successes and skills and show my dedication to athletics and academics. Due to coaching errors, many of my football stats were lost during my first three years of high school. Having a new coach this year, I now have stats that show my athletic effort. I led the football team in tackles my senior year and ended the season second in my conference. During my junior year of baseball, I batted a .333 average and only made one throwing error that year. I am 5??9, and weigh 160 pounds. I am serious about good health and plan to continue building my strength, stamina, and speed. I am presently lifting again to get bigger, faster, and stronger. I believe that an athlete should be well-rounded, not only in sports, but in academics as well.
I am a team player. I believe that I can bring a positive attitude and leadership to any team. I know that it takes a leader with vision to guide a team to success. I want to share my skills and talents with others and work my way up the ladder of success. Whether I play at a freshman level or at a higher level of competition, I want to earn my position on any team. Good leadership begins in the heart of the individual. It also reveals itself in other areas besides the field or gym. I push myself in school to receive good grades and achieve classroom honors. I have been on the A and B honor rolls for six straight semesters and have set personal goals to take my GPA from 3.80 to a 3.87. I take my education seriously. I am an ambitious individual that believes hard work pays off. Hard work also reflects on the success of the team.
My family works hard to see that I receive an excellent education. However, they will be unable to provide the necessary funds that would enable me to receive a college education. I am seeking this scholarship because it would not only provide me the opportunities to play a sport that I love, but it would also provide an opportunity for me to receive the education I will need to secure my future in a competitive world. I appreciate any consideration you give to me for this excellent opportunity. I would welcome the chance to speak with you if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Justin W. Poindexter
