I consider myself to be a student-athlete--in that order. Although I aspire to be recruited to a college football or baseball team, I also want to achieve my career goal of becoming a dental hygienist. Therefore, it is important to me to enroll in a college and join a team where I will be able to fulfill both my academic and athletic goals. Likewise, I want to be a part of a team that is a good fit and to play for coaches who will serve as mentors to me on and off the field. Building good relationships with my teammates and coaches and surrounding myself with people who share the same commitment and goals as me is something I look forward to. I see myself as valuable to a team because I will fulfill any role needed for the team. I have a strong work ethic, as I view being on a team like having a job. I hold myself accountable for meeting and exceeding others’ expectations. Besides being committed to my team, coaches, and school, I also am committed to my academics. Schoolwork does not always come easy for me, but I have the self-discipline to succeed in the classroom. I know nothing will be handed to me, and I am willing to learn and work my way up within the program. Most importantly, I have sound character. When asked about me, I believe my teachers and coaches would call me a “good kid” who they like having in their classrooms, and I think that says a lot about the type of person I am.
