Hi my name is Devon Morrison I attended Loreauville High School in Loreauville Louisiana which is about 10 minutes outside of New Iberia. I have been playing football since 6th grade I am now a graduated senior & was excepted to The University of Louisiana @ Lafayette (home of the Rajun Cajuns) i currently am not playing football which is a great upset to me i couldnt figure out why my teamates were getting recruited and i wasnt when i was the senior co-captain & have been a varsity starter since my freshman year. Also i was 1st all-district defensive player & 1st place defensive player best if the teche. I also recieved the Harold P. Melancon memorial award for most courageous player on the team. My sophomore year we went to the last game before the state championship & lost by 1 point that was truely heartbreaking but i will never forget it. I would give anything for just one more friday night under the lights! I live for this! Anyway i found out the reason i had not been contacted by colleges for neither football are acedemics....which is strange because i am also a 3.6 GPA Honors graduate & scored a 21 on my ACT was because whoever is in charge at my highschool had not turned in any of my transcripts or GPA information to any colleges since my sophomore year in highschool. Also we learned when we finally figured out what was going on that they also had my address wrong all these years. I guess they assumed because i went to Loreauville i had a Loreauville address which i didnt its a New Iberia address because i live on the outskirts of Loreauville. This has affected me in many ways because while my peers had done been accepted to college it was midsummer & i had still never recieved my acceptance letter so i was seriously doubting myself & my ability to get into a good college. Fortunately my mom picked my spirits back up by getting to the bottom of it. It actually took 4 different phonecalls to admissions & being told i would just have to try & apply by commitee which my mom knew wasnt right but we waited for the lettter from the ULL comittee which never came so she called back again & finally spoke to a female student volunteer in admissions & her having gotten in there herself knew what the qualifications were & so she herself knew something wasnt right...so she dug a bit & thats when she discovered they had no current transcripts or GPA on me & the wrong address. So anyway thank god after that i was immediately excepted but that didnt help the fact that i missed out on alot of possible scholarships which i really needed and it also seemef to have ruined my chances of possibly playing & doing what i dont know how to live without which is play football. I have started since my freshman year & then we went my sophomore year 1 game away from the super dome for the state championship. We lost by 1 point and it was very hard for a long time but with the help of my football brothers we were all slowly able to move on and concentrate on next season. I play different positions. Always special teams corner back strong safety. Was backup quarterback my sophomore year and sometimes reciever. This year my senior year I never got off the field during most games I played on both sides of the ball. I am also proud to say that during all my highschool career we never had a losing season. I am extremely passionate about football and can't imagine my life without it. My TV stays on the sec and NFL channels constantly. I know pretty much all the statistics of all the teams and never go anywhere without my football. My mom laughs at me because in all her pictures I have my football in my hand. It is very much an outlet for me. I do tend to take out my frustrations on the field which I hope is a good thing. I am also a perfectionist and am my own worst critic. That goes for everything in my life including academics in which I am an honor student. I have always been a 3.0 or above student since I started school. I also am very much a leader and not a follower. I have never had any behavioral problems or disciplinary problems. I never miss a practice and always give 110%. I even run stadiums after practice and participate in track in order to stay in shape and improve my speed and athleticism. Again I can't imagine my life without football in it in some form or fashion. I also come from a pretty athletic family. My mom was a gymnast, cheerleader, and dancer. My dad played a little football and went into the military at 18. My sister was a state champion gymnast in all 4 events and won 1st place overall at every competition. Then she went on to be a junior then varsity cheerleader. My brother was in baseball when he was younger and entered the Marine Corp at 17 while a senior in high school. He is now in his 4th year ad a marine & is a corporal stationed in Hawaii. My other brother attended ULL and also graduated with honors. Actually we all 4 were very good in acedemics. We never struggled in school and all have had straight A's in behavior all through school. My grandpa also played football in high school and was very good but unfortunately he couldn't pursue it. Back then it was more important to his family to go straight to work after high school so he did. I believe I get my passion for football from him. Also my dad's brother my uncle Todd was a football player for Welch high school where in i believe it was 1988 or 1989 they went to the state championship. He was offered a scholarship but couldnt go due to an unfortunate back injury. Also my mom's brother my uncle Shane also played football all through high school at Loreauville where I play. After high school he attended college for drafting. My mom's sister my aunt Billie participated in track and field through high school then went on to attend ULL where she graduated on the dean's list majoring in anthropology. My grandma my mom's mom was a horse barrel racer. Also my uncle Todd went on to be the varsity basketball coach here in Hackberry Louisiana where his son my cousin Dylan was a very good high school basketball player and received a scholarship to McNeese State University. Also my other cousin Dylans sister Destiny was the state free throw champion in basketball she also received a scholarship to Mcneese. I guess I tell you all of this to let you know I come from an ambitious competitive athletic family. My family is very supportive of my football and know how much it means to me and constantly encourage me. I just can't tell you how much football means to me. I am very positive I would be a very dedicated ambitious leader on any football team. I love the brotherhood of it and try to set good examples for my teammates. Academically I would also be a great asset to any college. Bottom line I wanna play FOOTBALL!
