Playing football for the first time for me began in the 5th grade. Even before that, however, I would tell everyone that I played football, although it was just with my cousins and friends in our yards. In my first official 5th grade football practice my coach showed me the linebacker position and began teaching me how to play. During the first game of my football career, the ball carrier ran right past me during a play. My adrenaline began pumping, and I began running toward him, making the tackle after his nearly a 20 yard head start. That taught me to never give up on a play or anything else for that matter. That memory has led me to where I am now, living and trusting the process.
During my 5th and 6th grade years I played two years of organized football and made All-Stars each year. At the beginning of 7th grade my mom told me that football was just too dangerous and that I might be hurt. She encouraged me to play soccer that year, but soccer was just not the same. That’s when I knew that football was my absolute passion.
One day in 7th grade science class my teacher, who was the coach for the high school football team, asked if I played football or wanted to play. My answer was that I absolutely wanted to play. After many conversations with my mom, she eventually allowed me to play football my 8th grade year. That was probably the happiest I have ever been. From that time forward every time I hit the field or even lift weights that same joy comes back to me as if it were the first time. My goal is to better myself in a football aspect as well as in an every day life aspect. My football coach tells me to improve one percent each day.
Now my favorite thing to do is to improve my strength. If I am not the strongest I can be, then I am weak and weak is dangerous. The top two goals I have in life are to strengthen my faith in Christ and to work toward a division one college career. My promise is to deliver 110 percent every day.
