Personal Statement

Excelling in sports and academics since I was very young has helped me become a confident and driven student-athlete.  Though I have played many sports well, football, more than other sports,  has given me the opportunity to develop leadership skills, self-discipline, sacrifice and a deep sense of commitment both on and off the field.  One may say I come by it honestly as my dad, played university-level football and was drafted in the CFL while  my uncle played 10 years in the NFL as a first-round draft pick.  Leading my last 3 teams to city and provincial  finals and semi-finals was extremely gratifying and a great sense of accomplishment,  but our defeats, though hard to take at the time, were just as valuable as they taught me that it really takes resilience as well as a whole and fully-committed "team" to win.

I have been lucky to work with great  coaches (including my dad and uncle) who have not only helped me hone my athletic skills but who  have also shown me the value of "leading by example" on and off the field to earn the respect of teammates, coaches, and teachers.  My commitment to community-involvement and hard work stem from my own parents' work ethics and social engagement.  I have worked for our family small businesses since I was 12 years old, helped  in family fundraising events and fulfilled over 80 hrs of volunteering in my freshman year by coaching younger football players and this, while remaining on the Honour Roll.  For these reasons, I feel I have the character, leadership skills, talent and commitment to compete and make a positive impact on your college team and program.  As a multi-sport athlete,  7-time Captain, and Honour Roll Student, I know I will be a great asset to your team!
