Exactly one year ago, January 2013 I put into motion the plans to advance my size and speed as well as my overall football I.Q. Hours spent watching film with Coach Geske in the off-season proved to be invaluable. Instead of another varsity season on the baseball field, I realized that track would be much more beneficial. Making that choice was difficult as I've loved baseball my entire life. However, the benefit of running track in the spring is evident in my increased speed. I've improved my speed considerably and am proud to say I was actually one of the fastest on my team this season. At 6'1", 220lbs I was able to run the 40 in 4.85 seconds which is by far and away a huge advancement in speed for me. Additionally, the added time in the weight room has made a considerable difference in my overall strength. I've realized a 35% gain in the weight room since last year. (2013)
My football experience here at Marist has been invaluable to me. I have attempted to contribute my best for the overall success of the team. My senior season found me playing on both sides of the ball again. Playing linebacker and fullback both during a game can be an exhausting feat. Knowing that I can accomplish that task with a high level of athleticism gives me the confidence I have what it takes to play at the college level.
I have found that by focusing on the team as opposed to myself as an individual, I have had the unique opportunity to become proficient at many positions. Striving to become the best rounded athlete I can be, I volunteered to be used in any capacity that would benefit the teams need depending on the season. The result is tremendous experience. As a 4 year Letterman and 3 year starter in all games, I have with experience at fullback, linebacker, defensive end, tight end and even offensive tackle. Most of the games my senior season I played on both sides of the ball for the majority of the game. Mastering 3 seasons of offensive and defensive play-books has increased my football IQ exponentially. All four years of my high school career have offered me the valuable experience of preparing for and playing in the playoffs. Being a part of a winning football program has provided me with the experience of over 39 Varisty games. I was taught how to win.
I continue to work hard to earn the opportunity to play in college next year. I look forward to the challenge knowing what I have learned these past 4 seasons in this varsity program will be a great foundation for me as I move forward. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to play in so many games during my high school career and I know that experience offers me a competitive edge.
I'm grateful for the support I've received from my coaches and my family and I am confident with their continued support, my work ethic, coachable attitude, and commitment to selfless contribution as a teammate that I will find a great fit at a school where I can enjoy another 4 seasons playing this great sport.
I invite you to view my additional film on Hudl as well. One of the final plays of my senior season shows my speed as I run down a D1 recruit for a touchdown saving tackle. I'm confident you will like what you see.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I look forward to hearing from you to discuss my future in your program.
Sincerely,
Josh White
