Dear Prospective Coaches,
My name is Cory Heffner and I’m a 6’1, 185 lb junior.
At four years old, I began playing football and baseball, soon after I could tie my cleats. I loved spending time with my dad (he was also a coach) and of course, my friends. I played in rec leagues throughout my childhood winning two conference super bowls, a state championship, and even having the experience of traveling south to Daytona Beach to win the Eastern Division National Youth Football Championship. I knew at an early age that I enjoyed the competitiveness and bond of brotherhood with other teammates.
As a high school freshman, I was the starting quarterback for the freshman football team at Calvert Hall College High School in Maryland and led the team to a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship, ending the season with a 5-2 overall conference record. My sophomore year at Calvert Hall proved to be more challenging, as I was tested against other gifted athletes, but ultimately the experience taught me to never lose sight of my dreams, as I know I will face adversity throughout my life. For me, the highlight of this season was having the longest play from scrimmage against nationally ranked Saint Frances Academy.
Before the start of my junior year, my family relocated to Pennsylvania and I started as safety, cornerback and wide receiver on the varsity football team at Delone Catholic High School. Our team won the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Division III Conference Championship and I was selected to the All-Conference team at cornerback. It was a great year for me growing as a player, a student, and a young man.
I am described as a quietly confident and focused leader on the field and a caring and humble person off the field. I believe my faith has shaped who I am and is the foundation of my life plan – both on and off the field.
In the off-season, I focus on my overall mental and physical health through skills and agility training, weight training, camps and volunteering for my church. I love spending time outdoors swimming, fishing, snowboarding, relaxing at the beach and playing lacrosse. I have learned that my family is my biggest support system as they’ve helped me define who I am and realize what my bigger purpose is in life.
I would not be where I am today without recognizing the leadership of my coaches and thanking them for the encouragement to go beyond my limits.
I am not only a hard worker on the field, but I ensure my academics come first. I pride myself in being consistently on the honor roll and recognized as a top student. I plan to attend a college with both strong academic and football programs that will help lay the groundwork for a well-rounded future.
I am ready to take the next step in my football career and I hope to take that step with you.
Please consider me for your football program - I know my best is yet to come.
