Now that I'm in my senior year, I look back and see that everything I've done in my life has lead me to football. I think about it every day. When I lift weights all year long, I focus on getting bigger and stronger for my next season. When Springtime comes, I run track and throw the shot put with the end goal of becoming faster and more focused for my next season. When I meet off season with a trainer outside of school, I focus on speed and agility for my next season. When I am overwhelmed with assignments in school, I push through them knowing I need good grades to continue playing football.
As a young kid, I didn't enjoy school much, because I didn't do well. I've had an IEP since the third grade, and knowing I could play football helped me stay focused and on track. It pushed me to eventually become an honor student and a team player. My teammates are my brothers, and we have each others' backs.
This sport has helped shape me into the man I am today. I have a strong work ethic, a loyalty both on and off the field, determination and heart. I will work hard to be able to do what I love, and that's a promise.
