In September of 2017, my hometown was devastated by hurricane Maria. As a result, our football season was cancelled after just one game. We didn't have running water for two weeks or electricity for several months. The terrible situation was made even worse by the fact that we were not able to play the game we loved. Fearing that we would completely lose our season, some of us got together to practice, using emergency generators and sometimes the lights from the cars in the parking lot. The team was innovative and resilient and others followed suit. One of the beautiful stories around this tragedy is that we were able to get together and play our HS season in the Spring, winning the State Championships and earning All-Star honors along the way. During the ordeal, we were contacted by Coach Bill Curry, who sent a comforting message and kept in touch with the season and the situation in the island. Later on, I was able to meet him in person and have lunch when we went to Atlanta for football camps in the summer. The experience taught me that anything is possible, and I am more committed than ever to playing and studying at the highest level.
I have been a Varsity starter at RG since my Freshman season, an All-Star since my Sophomore Season and a Team Captain since my Junior season. Last summer I camped at Georgia Tech and was the MVP at the Atlanta Offense/Defense Camp, where I was invited to play on their All-American Bowl. I am an Honor student with a 3.7 GPA at the University High School (UHS), where I already started taking classes at the university level. Both of my parents are university professors, and my father is also the Offensive Coordinator and OL Coach for my HS team, so excellence in education and sports has been an integral part of my life.
