I remember my first touchdown. It was my first game as a freshman, and I ran for a 26 yard touchdown. Up to that point, I thought of myself as a baseball player/athlete. After that moment, my self-identity changed to quarterback. I fell in love with playing the game, being an integral part of a team where everybody has to contribute. Being a natural leader, running an offense and having responsibility for each play energizes me. The preparation, both physical and mental, are challenging, but so rewarding. The relationships I have built with coaches and teammates are invaluable: I have learned so much about life, community, strategy, personal responsibility and commitment. My goal is to continue my education through this great game at the college level.
Off the field, I am busy with academics, philanthropy, friends and family. I have a rigorous class schedule, taking many honors classes, and especially enjoy math and the sciences. I am a mentor with Athletes for Kids, in which I spend time every week with a special needs child, and am a member (and former officer) of the Mercer Island Chapter of the National League of Young Men, a philanthropic, service and leadership organization. I am active in Younglife and, luckily, share that experience with my closest friends. Finally, I am blessed with a very supportive family. I realize I am very fortunate, and with that comes the obligation to not squander my opportunities and to pay it forward.
