Personal Statement

The highlight of my freshman year (2016-2017) is getting some playing time in the quarterfinal game in the West Virginia State playoff tournaments for the AA West Virginia State Championship. I attend Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, West Virginia. All freshmen at Bridgeport must play on the freshman team. I started as a defensive tackle on the team. I sat a goal to move up after my freshman team season was done. I moved up to Junior Varsity, then to Varsity. I learned that working hard to develop more skills and being patient helped me obtain this goal. From all the experience I have had this year I believe I have grown as a student athlete.

When I was younger I had some obstacles to overcome. I was legally deaf I had to learn to speak correctly, learn to hear, learn what vibrations are on my ear to hear . When I was five years old is when I started to play the game of football. I had to learn to read lips of the coaches and hear with a helmet on. It took some time and effort from amazing coaches to help me achieve my goal. Now that I am older I've had surgery to correct some of hearing issues, I am no longer legally deaf. From these experience I have learn to set goals and not to let any obstacles stand in my way to achieve my goal. On the football field I like to accommodate my team by learning different positions to play so I can play where I am most useful for my team. I currently play defensive tackle, but in the past I have played center, left and right tackle, nose guard, middle linebacker. Having the experience to learn different positions has allowed me to be goal driven, and strive to be a solid performer on the field.

I am very fortunate to be part of this football program at Bridgeport High School. In high school, I am using my personal growth and experiences to prepare me for the vision I have set forth for my college goals. Right now I am on the health science track. This will allow me to achieve my goal to be a science major. Being a science major will allow me achieve my goal to go into Pharmacy School. I’m energetic, self-motivated, vibrant player who strives to positively influence my team. As I grow physically and mentally I will continue to strive to be an asset for my team in high school and in college. I will conduct myself with respect and honor on and off the field. I know how I carry myself is a direct reflection of my team, my coaches and the school I attend.
