My name is Wyatt Crogg, I was born in Jacksonville, NC on the military base at Camp Lejeune, where my mother was in the Marine Corps. Shortly after I was born, my mother and I moved to 29 Palms, CA to be with my father who was also serving in the Marine Corps. This would be the first of many moves, while my father was serving in the Marine Corps.
Some details of my life that have influenced me to be who I am today was growing up in a household where my mother was mainly the only present parent in the house. Due to countless number of military schools, training, and five deployments, my father was rarely home. My mother would always be there to talk to and help me though anything I needed. She is a big support for me, and she shaped me into the person I have grown up to be.
I started flag football when I was five years old. I became really interested in football when I was around 13-14. In 2018, I had a really bad experience with football, where my playing time was slim to none, and my love was slowly fading from the sport. My coach John Early from 2017 Pop Warner invited me to play league flag football. He gave me an opportunity to play receiver (which I never played previously), and I got my spark back. Coach Early, was an amazing coach who treated me like his own son.
In July of 2019, I moved to Wisconsin with my two younger brothers and my mother to be closer to family. I was very hesitant to play high school football, due to my previous bad experience with football and the coaching staff. My mother told me that I was an amazing football player, and that I should give it one more chance. I was introduced to coach Nelson, who was the head coach for the freshman team. Coach Nelson, immediately saw something in me that I did not. I started in every single game and played both offense and defense. After my freshman season was over, I was awarded Defensive play of the year. Throughout my football career, I have learned that I can push myself further than I think I can go. There has been a lot of times where I felt I was at my breaking point, but I continued to play through because I knew it would better me later on down the road.
My academic goals for high school are to finish with a great GPA and try to better my ACT score. My goals for college are finding my passion in something I love to do and getting a degree in that.
One of the obstacles that I had to overcame to get to the current position I am in right now, is playing for a team that put me in a spot that did not let me grow to my full potential. Before I moved to Wyoming, I played for a team in Wisconsin that only allowed the players to play one position and the coaches thought I would do best at Safety. I started as a sophomore, but I never enjoyed it. The coaching staff also didn’t help me really develop in that position so I would always get hurt. When I moved to Wyoming, I got to put myself wherever I wanted and prove to everyone that I could play receiver.
Some of the unique skills I possess are my speed and my ability to get open for big plays. Of course, none of this would be possible without my solid offensive line, and my amazing quarterback Taft Mcclure. I would say another skill I have is being so compatible with all of my teammates. Most of that is from moving around so much and having to make new friends all the time but it really helps with building a connection with everyone.
