My name is Jake Martin. I am a point guard from a small-town Alabama school who can really shoot and facilitate the basketball. I love the sport, and I keep good grades in the classroom. It has always been my dream to play a sport at the collegiate level. I know that there are plenty of recruits that can average 30 points a game, or dunk like nobody else, or rebound the ball really well. Many players have many talents and are good at so many different things. My talents are definitely shooting the basketball and making the rest of the team around me better as well. When it comes to my academics, I keep all A's and an occasional high B. I try my best to keep it that way throughout the school year. My main goal is to try to finish high school with over a 3.5 GPA and try to get a scholarship to a good school.
In my life, I have been through many hardships and had to work my way out of family-built holes. I grew up thinking that everyone around me were my enemies and took my anger out on a lot of innocent people. Now that I am older, I can admit that my actions were wrong, and I know that. I think that all of that time believing these things made me more competitive and keep the people that mean a lot to me close. When I was going through these changes, I fell in love with basketball and played it for hours every day. Playing was the only time when I was honestly stress free. I have learned through basketball that life isn't all about yourself and that it is about how you treat other people. I have learned that life is all about your own perspective and only you can change how you see it. My future goal is to make a change and help kids who are in the spot I was once in. The world needs more good people, and I want to be one of them and try to help people become just that.
I believe that I am one of the hardest working players on the court and students in the class. I am the type of player to not let one shot ruin my whole game and worry more about winning and making sure that if I'm not scoring, my teammates are. My main priority is always to win and be the best. All of that aside, I would love a chance to make my dream come true and play under the lights one day. Thank you coaches for giving me the time of day and reading this.
