Why me?
-Finding myself in basketball has helped create and define my work ethic in all aspects of my life. Let me explain. Initially I learned to use basketball as an outlet to get away from adversity and rough patches throughout my life at home. Through different teams and coaches it became apparent this sport would become the way I would reach my highest potential. In twelve months I grew six inches and leveled up from Sophomore to a starting Varsity position.
Gaining perspective?
-I’ve learned success isn’t the measure of how I grow, but rather coming up short of my goals. Losing in the first round of my High School playoffs has taught me greater teamwork perspective and about my need to better prepare. I also wasn’t as academically focused in my first 2 years of high school, recently I have course-corrected and earned all A’s during my junior year. My GPA is climbing.
-I have emotionally matured due to growing from the impact of grief. I have had more than a few family and extended family members pass away due to accidental-death
-Going on a humanitarian trip to Accra, Ghana in Africa was a life changing experience for me. I volunteered to spend time building a school for an orphanage in a rural part of Accra. Not only did I learn to put the pain of lifting 50 pound cement blocks and making mortar and cement from scratch behind me, I also got to see how blessed I am in comparison to the kids and people in Ghana. You will never meet a nicer and more grateful group of people and considering they have a lot less than us in first world United States showed me how I needed to change my perspective and wake up.
Why basketball?
I will add value to a team, I have a strong acumen for reading offenses. Growing up participating in multiple sports as well as enjoying professional sports analysis, I find learning from players, teams, and coaches rewarding. Multiple coaches have complimented and enjoyed solicited feedback on how my team’s are interacting and performing.
