Personal Statement
Blake Slauson class of 2019 liberty high school Bakersfield California
Give me a Jersey I'll wear it. Put me on the team I'll play with passion, throw me a ball I'll take a shot. Basketball , I live for it, and I look forward to my college years to include it.
I consider myself adaptable, dependable and tenancious. I come from a very competitive family, my older sister played high school golf, and my brother plays football. My dad has a totally different passion which includes raising and showing horses. but we all support each other which gives us all a strong support system.
My basketball career started in 5th grade and since then I have played on two different high school teams, two summer leagues, and six club ball teams in the last four years.
The work gets harder, and the players get taller. I can hold my own at 6.3" and being a lefty makes me feel special , even if there a a thousand lefties out there!. I just don't feel that intimidated by other players. Obstacles, had those. Injuries, yep, hearing I had to stay off the court for two months was like hearing Christmas wasn't coming this year. I supported my high school team at every game, every practice and I always arrived early and left late . But I survived and became a better player because of it. I had to learn patience which is not one of my strongest traits!. DId I say I was tenancious ? Vegas largest tournament of the whole year, my 17 u team couldn't go , made it over the bumps put a last years jersey on and hopped on a club team and went. We drove through 120 degree temperatures and I played! And that experience I will never forget. I look forward to being a dynamic player and positive influence on my teammates and coaches. I will challenge myself with my academic goals just like basketball. They involve Sports Management and Kinesiology .
