My basketball journey started much later than most, as my father, a multi-sport athlete, had serious reservations about pushing me into sports. After constant begging, he finally relented, and my basketball career began. My skills grew leaps and bounds in a rather short period of time. I went from a beginner in the 6th grade, to Varsity starter my sophomore year. I believe what benefitted me by starting so late was that I didn't begin with bad habits. I've taken a technical approach to learning the game, studied the habits of great players, and not highlight videos on YouTube. My approach to the game is that I'm 1 part of the whole, and it's my responsibility to be accountable for my role. I also attack the game with the mentality that it's going to take more than 1 person to hold me, and because of that, I provide my team a statistical advantage. I've always been coachable, because again, I didn't start the sport with an ego. I try to remain cognizant of my attitude, knowing that my teammates' energy feeds off of me. I'm willing to do all the little things that don't show up on the stat sheet, but contribute to winning. These attributes carryover off the court, as I attack my school work and community service with the same tenacity. I can confidently say I'd be a welcomed contributor in the classroom, the community, and on the court.
