My entire life, I've been an athlete. I was raised by parents who both competed at the collegiate level. Both parents are teachers at my high school and both coach. My mother is the former Athletic Director and current Dept Coordinator for the Science Dept. and my father is currently the Asst. Athletic Director and Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. I have been raised to play sports as much as I can for as long as I can. My parents have also stressed the importance of academics. I have learned many life lessons through sports and have enjoyed the ups and downs of competition and lengthy seasons and training. I want to graduate with a college degree in Business with statistics and computers as supporting subjects as I would love to join the interesting field of being a sports statistician.
I have a deep passion for all sports. Since I was five years old, I was keeping the score book for major league baseball games I viewed on TV. With both parents being athletes and coaches, I was always on the sidelines watching games, sitting in on film sessions with coaches and analyzing strategies on video, TV or through discussion. Pretty much, I have been raised to be a "student of the game", no matter the game I was playing. I wasn't always the big kid or the most skilled, but my work ethic outmatched others. For example, I attended a basketball camp in Missouri and then practiced with college level men's basketball players in Marin CA. I was told to put 200+ shots up every day over the summer to out train and out work others. I committed and did just that. I have been averaging 17.5 points per game my senior year with a game high of 27 points just a few weeks ago. I've always played age groups up with bigger and better competition, but I've always succeeded primarily due to my work ethic and extra hours of training. I want to play basketball in college. I want the college experience of being part of a team, a collegiate institution, the next level. I believe that coaches and recruits would see my character as positive, coachable, showing leadership, commitment and a relentless desire to win.
Academically, I believe this is what separates me from most others. Not only am I competitive on the court, I am in an educational setting as well. I have challenged myself by taking numerous AP and honors courses in order to learn skills necessary to succeed at the college level while juggling the schedule of athletics. I enjoy learning and know nothing but giving my best effort. Currently, I am enrolled in ROP Sport Medicine which takes place in the mornings at a different high school. I am able to commute to attend that course and make it back to my high school to attend my last two classes. It takes responsibility and dedication to follow through. I understand that a college degree is so very important for my future and that without academics, there is no college athletics. So being a student-athlete is a title I take a lot of pride in. College coaches will not have to worry about my eligibility or responsibility getting to classes and completing work.
Socially I am a likable guy. I have many friends from various social groups. I am respected by my peers and by others of all ages. I genuinely like people and work well in groups. I've been told that many like my sense of humor and ability to stay positive even in stressful situations. I have been nominated and held many leadership roles on my teams. I've been captain on 7 of my high school teams. It does not matter if I am a starter, coming off the bench, not playing or being brand new, such as my varsity cross country experience this past fall; I love to lead and to be a positive influence on my teammates.
I thank you for your time learning a little bit more about me and my desire to play at the next level. I am committed and the good news is, I am still growing! I am predicted to be over 6"5" and currently have a wingspan of 6"4.5". I look forward to hearing from you and to share more about what I can offer your team and institution.
Thank you,
Sean Granucci
