Matthew Briscoe '18 Recruiting Profile

My name is Matthew Star Briscoe, Jr.   I was born in Monterey, CA and I live in Seaside, CA, a small very culturally diverse city on the Monterey Peninsula in Monterey County, CA.    My mother, a successful professional and a devoted mother was also raised in Seaside.   She raised me to work hard, be respectful, to stay confident and strive to accomplish what is important to me.  Without her impact on my life I would not be the person I am today, as she’s taught me to be a person of high character. My family has motivated me to become the best I can be in life and be a successful person that gives back to the community.

I am a skilled athlete and my main sport is basketball.  I have always had an interest in sports, starting in elementary    school.  I played soccer, baseball, football and basketball.  I have more of a passion for basketball because I love the game and the affect that it has had on my life.  I've been playing basketball since I was 6 years old.  I have a passion for basketball because I like being a part of a small team and the competition.  The game allows me to showcase my skills.  I played in middle school and for three years in high school.  I started playing travel basketball in 2011 and will play through my senior year.   In my Freshman year, I was chosen Most Valuable Player.  In 2015 and 2016 I won the All Tourney Award in the Solis-Miles Invitational Basketball Tournament.  Named Monterey Bay League Pacific Division Second Team All League 2015-16 and 2-5-16 Monterey Bay League Pacific Division Sophomore of the Year.  I am currently a Junior, 2nd year varsity player, captain and high team scorer.

Basketball is more than just a sport to me, it is a part of my life and who I am.  It has taught me discipline and the importance of leadership and team building.  It has made me understand that to be successful you have to have passion, determination and the will to work hard. 

While I am passionate about sports, I am also committed to getting good grades.  My current GPA is 3.6.  I plan to attend a four year university and major in Business Administration/Marketing.
