Personal Statement
My name is Landon Seaman. I am currently 17 years old. I am 6’7” and weigh 210 pounds. I am a senior at Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville, CA. I have been playing basketball since I was four years old. When I was younger, I played on local recreation teams. As my skills increased, I started playing for a local AAU team. My freshman year, I was selected for the Junior Varsity team. I am currently playing for the Varsity Team where I am the starting Post. During my off-season before High School starts, I play for AAU teams. I am very fluid in all positions, however my favorite position, and the position I am most productive in is, power forward.
I enjoy the many challenge basketball offers. On the court, I have learned teamwork, flexibility, character, but most importantly, leadership. I have also learned that it takes hard work and discipline to have a successful season. These lessons do not just apply to the court. I utilize these lessons in the classroom as well. I make sure my assignments are turned in on time and I always challenge myself to study harder in class and to learn as much as I can in my subjects.
Leadership on the court means taking initiative and helping teammates who may not fully understand the plays. Leadership in the classroom means helping out my “classroom teammates” where they are struggling academically, like a tutor. I am always there to help when needed. Additionally I was selected this year to teach a multi-weekend youth basketball camp at my school. The camp is called “Junior Wildcats” and I teach 8-10 year olds fundamentals.
In addition to a great athletic program, I am looking for a college that has a great animal sciences / veterinarian medicine program. Of course it is every high school athlete’s dream to play for a Division 1 school, but I have also taken a good look at non D-1 schools that have a great balance between athletics and academics. The school has to be a good fit for me where academics are just as important as athletics.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my personal statement.
