My name is David Harris, and I am in the class of 2025. I go to Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, California. My goal is to play collegiate basketball. I am a Power Forward on my high school basketball team and on my AAU team I was a Guard. I have just recently been awarded Principle’s Perseverance Award for increasing my GPA by more than .99 points. I currently have a 3.3 GPA for the first trimester and the first semester of my junior year I will be enrolled in 2 AP classes so that I can increase my overall GPA even more. I honestly had a rough start transitioning to high school academics last year as a freshman, but I worked hard finding tutors to help me with the subjects I struggled in. I also met with my teachers after school and asked for help on ways I can improve my academic study habits for high school. I know how essential it is to have a solid academic standing for college and for my overall future and I am working really hard every day to continue to get my GPA higher and higher. I am a lead in my Faith Formation church group which has helped me with my leadership skills on and off the court. When I started playing on the freshman team, I didn’t get a lot of playtime. This was new to me since I was always a starter on my AAU Prime Gold team. This just pushed me to work harder to earn more play time and earn a starting spot on my high school team. This season I am a starter for the JV team and was honored when our Varsity Head Coach moved me to the Varsity squad mid-season. I started playing basketball competitively when I was in the 4th grade. My AAU Coach, Frank Allocco approached me and my parents after I attended a summer camp and invited me to try out for the Prime AAU travel team. I initially declined the tryout invite and when my parents asked me why I said to them because I didn’t think I was ready yet and I didn’t want to commit to something as important as a travel team unless I was 150% sure I can give my best to the team and to the coaches. Basketball isn’t just about being the best physical athlete. Basketball is emotional and a mental game for me. I wanted to make sure I was not just physically ready to play ball at that level, I wanted to be mentally ready on the court and get my basketball IQ higher to play at the AAU level. That year I worked on my dribbling and ball handling every day after school and downloaded any app on my iPad that helped me with ball handling techniques and watched so many videos on players and how they played the game at the AAU level. I asked my older brother who also played 2 sports for ways I can get faster and stronger and what did he do to prepare for travel baseball. I tried out the following season and was asked to join the Prime Gold basketball team as a starter. For all 5 years I played for Coach Allocco and Coach Ron, I was a starting guard. What makes me a good candidate for your team and what makes me different? I am a very intense defensive player and I work really hard to stop teams from getting by me. I can confidently say that my teammates would say I am supportive in their play and a very positive leader and encourage them to play hard too. I get just as excited when my teammates make great plays on the court. I know that I still have lots and lots of grind to put in to reach my goals of playing in college, and I'm willing to put in that work. I am asking you to take a chance on me and know that I will work hard for you and the team.
