I became interested in basketball as I learned about my grandfather’s background, which influenced me to pursue the game of basketball. My grandfather attended Hutchinson Junior College and participated in the National Junior College Tournament. He was selected as one of the top 25 junior college players in the nation to compete in the U.S. Olympics. He later attended Drake University and reached the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament. This motivated me to work hard to achieve similar success. Throughout this process, I have never turned down an opportunity to be trained or pushed to my highest potential. This has prepared me mentally and physically to play at the collegiate level.
As a young player, I have overcome numerous obstacles in my journey where I was often typecast as only a post player, due to my size. As I grew older, I learned that I needed to improve my overall skills and become more versatile in order to be successful. This resulted in me working with numerous conditioning and skills coaches in order to improve my weaknesses. Because of this effort, I am now a versatile player with skill sets that includes passing, defending, ball handling, shooting and rebounding, which are keys to a winning team. I have learned about myself that I am calm under pressure and that I can handle the ball against any skill position and that I have the confidence to score on any player.
I am coachable as I listen to everything that the coaches have to say and try to implement what they say into my game. I want to find a school that values team play and a coach that is positive and pushes me to continue developing my game. I want to help a team become a winning culture and play under a coach who will value me as a student athlete.
