Personal Statement
My name is JC Carr, I am 6'5" and weight 180lbs. I have recently completed my last physical with my pediatrician, and he tells me, I still have a lot of growing to do(My dad Jeff Carr, former UCONN player is 6'9"). I attend Northwest Catholic High School, West Hartford, CT. In my sophomore year I played on the JV Team. The coach at the time placed me in the center position, I was 6'3" in the beginning of that season. I am still playing center on the varsity team and feel very comfortable. Playing center has made me a tougher player. I am not a very flashy player (dunks(I can dunk, but haven't in a game, not yet!), alleys etc), just a fundamentally solid player (great hands, run the floor, good rebounder, finisher). I am a team player. The staff at Northwest has given me a nickname "The Silent Killer". They say my game and attitude is so calm and in control, that you hardly notice me until you read the box scores the next day. I have a reputation of pulling down a lot of rebounds, defensive and offensive (putbacks). I was the leading AND1 player on my team, as well as lead the team in charges. The guard at NW is going to play for Endicott next year, he will be missed, we were really good together executing the pick-n-role. My coach once told reporters "We do not run many plays for him, he just knows where to be on the court, he has great hands, and is able to finish".
My coach put the varsity team in a summer league at Washington Park, New Britain, CT. The games are played outside, there is music, crowds, clock and announcer. The announcer likes my game he has given me the nickname "Postman, he never miss". Most of my points are scored in the paint. I have a three point shot, but my role with this team is to play down low, so that's what I do.
I have been playing the number 3 spot with my AAU team this spring and summer. I went to the Hoopgroup, Camp in Pennsylvania this past July and played Swingman. They didn't know that this was new for me and graded me as average for swingman. I thought that was good. I was on one of the NBA East teams, and a lot of the guys were huge (6'6" and above, weighing over a 190lbs.). It was cool playing ball, and running the court with the big dogs. I think I made an impression on some coaches, I received college letters when I returned home, and that made me feel good and hopeful.
There is a lot of work for me to do regarding my academics, I am not concerned though, I can definitely do the work and get better grades, Northwest is a very good college prep school (I am a C student at the moment). I did improve my grades as a junior and plan on improving them even more as a senior. Attending college means a lot to me, and being able to play ball and go to college would be a goal achieved. I am looking to attend college in the New England area (CT, MA, RI, NY, NJ, PA).
I do hope if you are a college coach, you will come to a high school game this winter and see me play ball. Every coach that views this, I will make sure that I send a schedule to you, I understand that there are contact rules that coaches have to follow, but I don't.
