My name is Kyle Jay Gaskins. My middle name is the same as my grandmother’s first name who passed away before I was born. I am a junior attending Coolidge High School in Washington, DC where I am enrolled in the Mass Media program. I am a member of the men’s varsity basketball team and play point guard while maintaining a 3.1 GPA. Since the age of 4, I have been involved in some type of team sport. I started out playing soccer then moved to tackle football and tennis. However, once I started playing basketball, it became my favorite sport. My father, who also played varsity basketball in high school, was first my coach. He taught me the fundamentals of the game, how to watch the floor and to be a strong team player and leader. With his guidance, over the years, I improved my dribbling, shooting and passing skills. When I am on the floor playing in a game, I am always aware of my teammate’s positions, constantly looking for passing or shooting opportunities to help lead our team to victory. For the 2019-2020 season, I led my team in scoring by averaging 22 points per game, 4 rebounds and 6 assists.Off the court, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I like bike riding and shooting hoops with friends from the neighborhood. I consider myself a relaxed person and have a great sense of humor. I like spending time with my two young neighbors, who are 4 and 6 years old, teaching them how to play basketball.
