Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. My name is Gabriel Garcia and I currently play for Miami Christian School as center/power forward, but I have played small forward in the past. Before Miami Christian, I played for Divine Savior Academy for my sophomore and junior years, though my high school career originally started when I failed to make the team at Doral Academy my freshman year. I began playing basketball competitively in eighth grade, too late compared to other kids. Though initially a disadvantage, this motivated me to push harder and taught me to overcome obstacles as I worked to catch up with my teammates. Since then, I have been awarded All-Tournament from Ball For It All Alliance Tournament and have continued to improve individually and also as a team player. I have become a great defensive player, hustling for every rebound and loose ball and opening up the court with my screens and making points in the paint, often shooting around the glass. My teammates joke with me and call me a "wall" because when I set a pick nobody can get through.
I want to play for a school that isn't just going to win. As I mentioned before, I started playing late but continue to prove to my coaches and teammates that I have raw talent, a lot of which I am still developing. That's why I'd like to play not just with a team that will stand out athletically, but also with a school that will help me to continue developing and refining my skills. At the college level, I know I will continue to be a strong defensive and offensive player, while working with the dedication that has brought me so far despite the obstacles that have crossed my path.
