I didn’t start playing playing basketball until the summer of 2014, going into my 6th grade year. However, these 5 years have been more than enough for me to find out that I absolutely love the game of basketball. Before 6th grade, I used to watch basketball all the time with my cousins, but never really thought of playing it myself. Because of my height and weight, I was encouraged by countless people to play football from as soon as I started elementary school. Eventually, I decided to try it out, and although I was decent, I never really liked the sport. After about 2 years of playing, I quit football and was convinced by my cousins, one of which currently plays proffesionally overseas, to try out basketball. At first, I was terrible but unlike when I played football, when I played basketball, I enjoyed playing the sport and after a few years, this evolved into love. The summer before my eighth grade year, I started becoming almost obsessed with basketball. I started watching film on players I looked up to, staying after practice to work on my game, and even started exercising every morning to get in better shape. Because of basketball, I learned that I am dedicated, a leader, and willing to do anything to get better. However, even though basketball has done a lot of things in my life, I cannot give basketball all of the credit for defining who I am. My parents have done a wonderful job of keeping me on track academically which has translated onto the basketball court. Ever since I can remember, my mom has pushed me to get good grades and because of this encouragement, I have been an A student for my entire academic career. That level of excellence is the same standard I hold myself to on the court.
I am looking for a school that will be an ideal fit for me both academically and athletically, and believe that because of my abilities on the basketball court, my dedication in the classroom, and my willingness to improve myself in all facets of life, I will be able to make a meaningful contribution to your program.
