My name is Kibwe Dorsey II. I love the game of basketball, but it didn’t start off that way. When I was younger, my father took my siblings and me to the basketball court at least once a week. We went to play around and for him to share his love of the game with us by teaching us a few basketball techniques. However, it wasn’t until my 8th grade year, that I realized I have a natural talent that should not be ignored. With my athletic build and aggressive nature on the court, I was quickly recognized as “The Rebounder”. The guy you wanted defensively on your team. I knew that that was not enough. As time progressed and having had the opportunity to learn the game from many great coaches, I became not only a great defensive player, but my offensive game dramatically improved. I know without them I wouldn't be the player that I am today. I am also known as the “high flying, athletic kid with an infectious spirit” because I was able to grab the rim at 13, dunking by the age of 14 and one of the fastest players on the court. I also believe in my teammates and encourage them to be great; we learn from each other.
After basketball season, it doesn’t stop there. I also run track, so basically, I am working on my speed and agility consistently throughout the year. When I am not in school or playing basketball, in my downtime, I love to play music. I have been playing the piano since the age of 4. Even though I do all the above, family time is the best time; there is nothing like family. My parents and siblings come to all my games to support me, and they are heavily involved by volunteering and helping where they can. I truly appreciate the support they give me, and it drives me to push-on.
When it comes to college, I would like to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in film production. I desire to work as a Film editor if basketball does not take me to the next level. I like to create and edit videos and have taken a couple of TV Production classes in high school.
My most important accomplishment is making the Varsity basketball team as a freshman in High School. I also played a “grade-up” as a sophomore with the Tampa Titans (AAU team), where I was a starter. These experiences will help me in college.
I try my best to put God first, be a good person, student, and basketball player every day. I take great pride in being a team leader. Given the opportunity to continue toward my goal of achieving excellence both in the classroom and on the court, doing what I love, would truly be an amazing experience.
