My name is Charles Amica III and basketball is the thing I love the most. I have a great personality, sense of humor, and am willing to help others in need. I realized that basketball was for me at an early age, and I wanted to put all my effort into it. I've been playing basketball for a long time and I’ve learned a lot about myself through the game. I have a unique ability to see the court which is why I’m always looking for the open man. I’m truly a team player and my ability to pass the ball and create opportunities for my teammates to score is a good feature to have on any team. I'm also able to score in tight situations; especially from the free throw line and get rebounds to get extra possessions for my team. Defensively, I've learned to make it difficult for people to shoot over me which allows me to block shots and I use my speed to pick off passes and get steals.
My goal is to make an impact at the high school and collegiate level. I understand the importance of being a student athlete who cares and takes classes seriously. I am an honors student and I maintain my current GPA of 3.7, but always aim higher. I can't allow myself to drop lower than that GPA and that is what motivates me in the classroom. This past year I was able to attend the Atlanta College and Career Academy and take Criminal Investigations. There I’ve found a passion for Criminal Justice and will be seeking that career professionally.
My grandfather is my big inspiration as he has supported me through all my obstacles. After every game no matter the outcome, he always checks in and asks how the game went. Not once has he ever doubted me, and I love to show him my appreciation through my game on the court. I've endured many obstacles on and off the court, yet I'm still here and not giving up because I've come too far. There was a time when I couldn't handle the ball, shoot the ball at a high percentage, or even make free throws. I doubted myself and I thought about quitting. I even felt like the closest people to me started to give up on me. I used these setbacks to work harder on those things that hindered me from reaching the next level. I continue to work on improving my game and I know I haven’t yet reached my highest peak. I'm still here and I'm here to stay because no matter how many obstacles come, I want to keep going. Only the person who wants their dreams bad enough face their obstacles, breaks them down, and works through them to overcome them; and that person is me...Charles Amica III.
