"When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred & first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before." -Jacob Riis
This quote best describes my experience and growth in the game of basketball. I've been blessed over the years to have attended several basketball camps, personal training sessions, played in Summer & Fall leagues, played JV and varsity basketball, as well as three seasons of AAU basketball. However, it was not until this past Spring (2017) that I finally struck the blow that cracked my basketball skill development rock. At the start of our season, my AAU coach, Luke Zeller, challenged me with his Core 5 daily workout. I accepted Coach Zeller's challenge and my consistent commitment to extra time in the gym each week has advanced my game to another level. As a point guard or shooting guard, my main focus on the court is always to help my teammates get the best shot on every possession and play unselfish, team defense. Coach Zeller has described me as "the most consistent player in our program" and a "systems guy" who can thrive in an offense and make his teammates better.
My family & Coach Zeller have nurtured within me the importance of character above everything. From my parents raising me in the church to Coach Zeller's extensive character training sessions each week during the season, I've been fortunate to broaden my experience serving others as a mentor to elementary students in our "Big 'A' - Little 'A'" program at my high school. I've also participated in various community service work as a member of the National Honor Society. In fact, Coach Zeller has offered me an opportunity to serve as a DistinXion college intern next year to further my leadership development and desire to work in the sports management industry.
My passion for the game of basketball has blessed me with opportunities to develop the personal traits I believe I will need to be successful in life after basketball...character, commitment, discipline and humility. My primary goal through this process is to find the right college basketball coach and program where I will provide the greatest impact on and off the court, while receiving the most long term benefit in return through my college education experience.
