Personal Statement
I have completed my freshman year with Southeast Community College in Nebraska and learned to adapt to the US speed of the game. I am back as a Sophomore, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to contribute although playing out of position as a Centre. I hope to transfer to a 4 year college to further develop and progress.
I offer versatility, total commitment, and a hunger to play great basketball. My desire to succeed and resilience means you can rely on me to give my game everything.
My strengths defensively are my length, defensive anticipation and hustle. On offence, I am comfortable playing in motion offence and enjoy crashing the glass, finding teammates open and knocking down open looks. Academically I’ve worked hard to improve my GPA to ensure I succeed in the classroom and on the court.
Here is what my coaches have said:
”I have been working with Leo for around four years now and his growth year by year continues to impress me. He has a very high IQ for the game. He just knows how to play and make the right play. Now that he has grown to be 6’6” it makes him a very unique player. He can really shoot it!!!! He also slashed well and rebounds very well!!! Defensively he’s smart and knows how to position himself on the floor well. With his work ethic that is unreal, I believe he can really help any program become more of a contender...”
Kevin Braswell (Georgetown) 2021
"Leo has great size and length for a wing player, allowing him to guard multiple positions and impact plays at the defensive end by adjusting & contesting shots, getting hands in passing lanes and creating deflections. Leo's ability to shoot the ball, paired with his versatility are his biggest strengths. With his growing size and athleticism, Leo is sure to have a big impact throughout the course of his college career. He is a focused, determined and hard working player, with a passion for basketball that will be a huge asset to any programme looking to recruit him" Matt Lacey, Head Coach Rosmini Basketball 2020
"Leo Wenham is a long and versatile defender who plays hard, is coachable and wants to get better. As Director of the representative programme at North Harbour, I have watched Leo develop from a small, skinny guard to a rangy wing player with genuine size and a growing offensive package. Leo excels contesting shots, pursuing loose balls, moving with the ball and knocking down open shots. He projects in the short term as a 3-and-D player who, over time, can take on more offensive responsibility. Because he is not finished growing, we see Leo as having considerable upside. Leo is now a legit 6'6 and has gained 18 pounds since the end of his HS season. Leo is a gym rat who will take instruction and get to work on areas that coaches think will benefit his game and the team. Off the court, Leo is a responsible young man who will be on time and do what is required of players. For coaches who love late developers who work hard and have upside, Leo is the ideal recruit" Vincent Minjare, Harbour Basketball Association.2021
