Personal Statement
As the game of basketball continues to evolve I understand the importance of the little things in order to win. Being a great teammate and building relationships with a strong foundation is what I think is the key to success in any competitive environment. Doing so in the past has allowed me to experience great team culture and develop playstyles that best complement one another.
There are a few assets to me as a person that I feel separate me from other aspiring & current student-athletes
1. The 'little things' being able to move off the ball, willing to take a charge on defence, pick up a man full court, boxing out, and running out
2. Coachability; I recognize the value of time that my coaches and family put into my development and I feel as though that should be reciprocated with respect and effort.
3. Determination, When given a role or a job in any team environment I don't let any setbacks phase me. I use being cut from a team or extensive criticism as fuel to improve myself as a person and on my game rather than a reason to quit playing.
Anyone can score with the ball in their hand. My main strength as a shooting guard is that I am very effective at moving away from the ball to create my own shot and create opportunities for my teammates in the process. Moreover, I don't mind not being the 'star player' of the team. To succeed in a team environment everyone has to do their job. I am willing to take on any role or job that a team gives me whatever that may be.
