Personal Statement
My love for basketball started at a very young age. I played basketball at every opportunity I could find. However, my skills became fully developed in Middle school when I joined the school's basketball team- The Hawks at the American International School of Brazzaville (AISB). It wasn't just a sport for me but a true passion. My participation in international tournaments organized by the American School of Kinshasa (TASOK) brought me to the limelight. My team succeeded to the finals twice in 2018 and 2019.
One source of my inspiration has been participation in the IBAKA games. Serge Ibaka, whom I also look up to hails from Congo Brazzaville and once visited our school. His daughter was my classmate and each time he came to drop or pick her up from school, I secretly admired him-his achievements and dedication to the course of basketball.
Very recently, as the pandemic began giving way, my school took part in the Ricardo games and put up a brilliant performance emerging as champions.
In 2019, I was part of a basketball camp in Manassas, VA. I am currently in the United States and as part of my vacation, I will be attending a basketball camp in New York to continue to develop my skills.
It would be a dream come true for me to gain admission into a college that would continue to help me improve and show case my talent. I am a very balanced person and know how to manage my academics and athletic life. As can be seen from my academic records, I have a very solid academic background and this past year, I had a GPA of 4.0 in each of the four quarters. My leadership skills are equally commendable due partly because of my involvement in Model United Nations (MUN) conferences that I have attended internationally in Kenya and Dubai for three consecutive years. I also attended the Ambassador Leadership Summit in University College Los Angeles (UCLA) in the summer of 2019. These have made me who I am as disciplined, committed, and servant leader.
My wish is to be accepted by a reputable university that offers my major fields of study and promotes academics. Most importantly, I am looking forward to getting a scholarship that will enable me fund the cost of college attendance.
