Personal Statement
Dear coaches,
My goal is to play basketball at the collegiate level. I love competition and the intensity that comes with training and performing under pressure. Also, I would love to home my skills to a degree that I would be able to give something back to my parents. That could be by getting a scholarship.
Physically, I continue to change and develop. currently my height is 6’6” (199 cm) and I am 178 pounds (82.5 kgs). I am still growing which is also why I find it critical to work hard to develop strength and speed continuously. I am good candidate because of my size and length. My shooting form is excellent and I am a solid spot up and off-the-dribble shooter. I can score from three levels (driving, mid-range, and long distance). perhaps most importantly, I take exceptional pride in being a good passer, and to maintain excellent court vision. I can anticipate where my teammates are going to be, and I can play multiple different schemes on defense.
Just as with my physical and court skills, I have honed my intellect and mental toughness. In so doing, I am a knowledgeable student of the game, being a very vocal leader on the court (calling screens, plays, switches). All of these skills come together and allow me to play 1 through 5. I am willing to put in any amount of time and work in order to achieve this goal.
Academics are also a a massive priority for me; I have maintained a top level GPA whilst taking a challenging academic course of study focused on AP(Advanced Placement) courses. I have enhanced these course pursuits by earning student leadership positions with in student council (serving as Vice President), National Honor Society (inducted as a Sophomore), Debate Club, and heading the Model United Nations team.
As noted, I am a fierce competitor; I love working to get better. The routine of hard work and the focus it brings to my life is critical to my being successful. thats why I work so hard and never, ever quit or give up.
My background is multi-cultural, international and unique. Having been born in Slovenia, I have lived in 7 different countries and have a global perspective on basketball. My coaches have been former professionals, as I have been coached by former NBA players such as Ike Nwankwo and Theron Bullock. I have also been coached by players from Euro and Asian pro-leagues such as Sylvain Habersaat and Pavle Cvetinovic. These coaches have demanded a great deal in terms of conpetitive spirit, dedication to excellence and good sportsmanship.
I am different in character seeing as I am a natural leader, I am coachable, I have a passion to win, and I value team success over individual success. I am a multisport athlete and play varsity volleyball, along with soccer in the past, I have club basketball and other sports in France, Switzerland, the US, and Thailand. I have won awards such as MVP of a basketball camp at Marshall University basketball camp. My Teammates and I have won u15 3v3 tournaments in Geneva, Switzerland where I was part of club basketball team that competed in tournaments throughout Europe. This reange of experience has given me a wide-ranging perspective on basketball and a commitment to excellence, hard work and dedication. I can make your team a better unit on and off the court.
Sincerely,
Quentin Rodehaver
