Personal Statement
Growing up, my parents always told me to take advantage of the opportunities that were given to me. Looking at those words now, I realize how much I take my position for granted. Not many people get to play on a Varsity team. Not many people get to travel to different countries around the world to show their skills to others. This is an opportunity I have used, not only to play for myself, but to play for my loved ones, and experience the world. A lot can be learned by experiencing other ethnicities play the same game as you. This opportunity has allowed me to add different bits and pieces from other styles of play to my own arsenal.
"Legacy". It's my answer to the commonly asked question, "Why do you play?". My father, back in high school, was a super star. He played football. He had everything going his way. Scholarships. A girlfriend(my mother). And a future ahead of him. Then he hurt his shoulder and lost it all. Now i'm here. Im my father's oldest child and one of the few promises i kept to myself was to make him proud and get somewhere that he couldn't. To carry on his "legacy". The Napier legacy.
I know I'm young(a sophomore), but i've put in the work, and I won't stop until I've achieved my goals, on and off the court. I plan to major in business. I want to open up my own company in the future, but for now, I have sports. They are the things I love doing the most. Why? Not because it's fun. Not to get girls. Because I love doing things for my family. Not my actual family but my band of brothers that I call teammates. Each and everyone of them has made a huge impact on me, and I thank God everyday for them. It's like having 14 older brothers(and they definitely love messing with the youngest).
One thing that is always seen in me is drive. It doesn't matter the time, or place, or weather, I always have the drive to better myself, on and off the court. My coach has made a huge impact on this and I owe a special thanks to him for that. The next few years will be interesting, and I want to see how far we can take this thing.
Thank you.
