Personal Statement
As a student athlete, my main goals are to perform excellently in my exams and get good grades to make it to an American university on a scholarship. Also, I would like to showcase my basketball skills as I believe I’m a talented player and have a lot of potential. I wish to go to a university and gain some sort of degree and afterwards, make it to a professional basketball league like the NBA.
I believe that in terms of character, I have a positive demeanour and will talk to my teammates about any thing happening on the court even in frustration as I believe communication is important. But I also have a winning mentality which is important for the team morale. Additionally, I stay out of trouble and I’m kind to coaches and school staff so I won’t display a negative character around teammates or anyone else.
In terms of athletic ability, I am very fast and can move my feet quickly on defense. I go to the gym regularly (four times a week) so I’ve built up muscle in both my upper and lower body. I can jump relatively high but I can definitely work out more to jump even higher and I’m not afraid of contact during a game. One of my snigger strengths is that I have very good stamina so I can regain my breath very quickly and if there is a turnover, I can hastily run back on defense.
Finally, on the academic side of things, I believe that I’m extremely intelligent and that I have a strong work ethic in class and at home. I’m very serious about my studies and will try as hard as I can to obtain the highest grades. For my official GCSE exams which are very important in the UK, I received three Grade 9’s, five Grade 8’s, and two Grade 7’s. This translates to 8 A*s and 2 A’s. I am always willing to learn and I strive for a solid academic future. I was also a former prefect in my secondary school, which exhibits responsibility, respectfulness and cooperation.
Overall, I believe I have many special qualities that set me apart from many others and I think that I will be a key player, hard worker and role model in whichever team I’ll play for. I understand that as a student athlete, I must equally weigh the importance of both basketball and academics, and therefore I will not disappoint any team.
