Personal Statement
Playing College Basketball has been my dream since I knew what it was. My hope is to be able to "make it" and then open the doors for the rest of the kids at home so that basketball can develop over here, and take it to the next level. Being from Maputo, Mozambique, reality kicked in really quickly. Once I realized how much harder it would be for me to make it to College basketball. But that just made me work even harder.
Thats what I bring to the table. Relentless hard work, leadership, and the ability to learn new things on the fly. I pride myself in my ability to score the basketball (mainly coming from perimeter shooting and transition). But one thing that seems to go unseen is my willingness to make plays for my teammates. I am just as happy to score a basket, as to assist, or make a pass that ends up benefiting the team. Finally defensively, I love to get stops on defense. I always try to guard the best player on the court and lock him down. That doesn't necessarily mean stealing the ball, that can just be getting him to do what we as the team want him to do. Then getting rebounds and kickstarting the fast break.
I speak three languages fluently (English, Portuguese, and Spanish) and learning Arabic. I have played at all 3 levels of basketball (pro internationally (Spain) while still in u18) so I have different understandings of the game and learned a lot of things while over there. I work hard in the books just as much because I believe that the mental aspect of the game is translated by the way you are in school as well. Finally I am coachable. I always want to learn, I will ask you a lot of questions, and love to workout. Getting me out of the gym is the problem.
