Personal Statement
I have been playing basketball since I was four years old. I instantly fell in love with the sport, and have ever since wanted to be great. I am a point guard with good defensive skills. I can take care of the ball very well, while seeing the court and reading the defenders. I believe that being a good point guard comes with being a good leader. I always push myself and my teammates to be the best possible version of themselves. Every time I step on the court I want to outwork everyone. I can not stand knowing that I could have gone harder in a drill, or ran a little bit faster down to stop the fast break, etc.
Off the court, I love being outside. During vacations, my family and I normally go back to Finland. We have a lake house there, and I find it very peaceful. I love swimming there and playing different board and card games with my family. During these vacations with my family, we sometimes go skiing too. That is probably one of my favorite activities. When I’m in the city, I really enjoy playing every kind of sport with my friends. We normally bike to the closest parks and start playing anything, with anyone.
The type of college that I am looking for is a school where I can become the best possible athlete while pushing myself to do good with academics. My academic career is very important to me since going pro after college is not always a given. As a player and a point guard, I value ball movement and team playing. Though I can score, I am not the type of player to get a team 30 points each night. What I will do is set the rhythm for the game, give the right passes, pressure the other teams’ guards on defense, making their life hard, and give every single possession my everything. I will bring energy to the court, and always leave everything there. I would say that my strengths are my resilience and my versatility. What I am looking for is a college that values these kinds of things.
