Personal Statement
My name is Brian Carey Jr. I am 18 years old and was born on October 20, 2004. I am 5'11/6'0 point guard (and still growing) that is looking for an oppurtunity to receive a scholarship to play competitive college basketball at any level. I personally would not mind starting off at a junior college since during my final two high school years were taken away due to Covid. My goals for college is to go into a system that fits my play style and allows me to shine and gain interest from higher ranked division coaches to give me a shot to carry my basketball goals further as i would love and dreamt to be in the NBA from I was a kid. None of my family members have ever went to college and finished college, this inspires me to be the first one to do so and set a standard for the future of my family. I think i can be good on any team due to the confidence that I have in myself and my skill set. At the point guard position, I have great vision, passing skills with either hand, and the ability to get my teammates the ball in a good position for them to score and help them be in the right position offensively and defensively. This description is the general description of a point guard but I am not just general point guard: I have the ability to break a defender down one on one with great shift, ball handling, quickness and change of pace attributes along with finishing the shot after whether it's a pull up mid-range jumper, floater or runner with either hand, three point shot, or a layup at the rim with either hand. To add, I am not a ball dominant player. I can work off ball and cause havoc via catch&shoot. What makes me different, is that I have the abnormal ability to shoot the ball from longer ranges with no changes to the mechanics in my jump shot. I also feel very confident shooting deep threes and hit the consistently enough where the defense as to react which will extend the defense and open up drive/flashing to the rim lanes for either myself or other teammates. Lastly and most importantly, my skills on the court match up with my skills off the court whether it's in the classroom or just the world outside of basketball in general. I am not a troublesome individual, I am not really interested in parties, drinking, or smoking and I am definitely not someone who would another individual convince me into doing silly things. Academically, I am a numbers guy so Accounting is my preferred major. I graduated with a 3.45 gpa. An academic scholarship is something that myself and my parents would also love.
