When I was little, I did not really know what activity I would really enjoy. My parents tried different sports having in mind that I might actually stick to one - but it always ended in the same way - I would become uninterested in the activity or simply did not want to do what I was told to do. We started with football, moved on to judo, tried tennis, and everything they could think of or was available in our town. I even took swimming lessons with the hope of joining a local water polo team. All in vain, until I started going to basketball practices and somehow magically stayed there for a longer period of time.
My late father was a very good handball player and he tried hard to discover which sport would suit me the most. He was thrilled when he realized how committed I was to improving my skills as a basketball player. And it has been years now that I have been training and participating in tournaments. I have progressed a lot and believe that he would be super proud of me if only he could see me now. He passed away two years ago but he never stopped supporting me for a single moment.
While honing my skills as an athlete, I have also been studying hard and doing extracurricular activities so that I could gain knowledge that will help me further in my studies. I am good at social and natural sciences but languages as well. I have participated in various environmental initiatives that have taken place locally and I have always enjoyed helping others. I started taking keen interest in medicine and a healthy lifestyle after my father’s death. We had a pretty rough period during his sickness and in between chemo treatments. Looking at him going through all that joking about it, I decided that I would like to help others as much as I can. I also realized that I would like to keep myself and people around me healthy as well. This is the reason I practice sports and try to educate myself and my mom and my sister on what we need to do to lead a healthy life.
I believe that the path I choose in life will better the lives of my family as well. Continuing my studies and practicing basketball while pursuing my dreams is my goal, while my ultimate goal in life is to help people through my future work.
I am also a team player and I like working in groups, leading with care leaving no one behind and making sure that everyone has the feeling of belonging to a group. It has been an honor for me to be the captain of my team for the past several years and I can freely say that we have a great team spirit. All of us are very committed to our goals and have high performance in school, but we also cooperate well together.
I believe that my future calling will be connected to helping people stay healthy and active or treating them so they could continue living their lives in the best way possible.
In conclusion, my experience, although not so vast for my age but still unique compared to the one of the majority of my peers, has inspired me to continue my education in the way that I could make a meaningful contribution to the world.
