Personal Statement
I’m Adam Loughrey and I am a 15-year-old 6’2 (188cm) power forward living in Muscat, Oman. I am currently reaching the end of my freshman year, in which I was the starting power forward for my high school’s junior varsity team, where I received the most improved player award or MIP (most improved player), in my rookie year. I try to train every day for the sport that I love whether it be going out and playing to improve in-game skills such as shooting and dribbling, or improving my body conditioning and strength, at 173 pounds I am fairly versatile player able to get up and down the court fast, to help my teammates; I love to improve my game all the time. I also do well academically as I currently have a 3.3 GPA, while balancing many other activities such as sport and music, while remaining a good student.
I started playing basketball in the 7th grade, and once I had played in my first game I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, to play basketball. I find that training is the most important area of basketball, and challenging your self and pushing your self is the only way to get better, over my basketball career so far I have played for my schools JV team (2017-18) and (2018-19) and have trained with a local men’s club named “Ahli Sidab” a top contending team in the Gulf region, I have also attended a basketball summer camp over the summer of 2018 called YUBAC which was located in Serbia, the camp was 10 days of intensive training with some of the best coaches in central Europe. Through my training I have realized that training is the most important part of basketball and having the mentality to repeat certain drills for a long time is a mindset that not all players have, and leads to a slower growth of players, I believe that I have that mentality to push my self to get better no matter what it takes, or how many repetitions I must do to make sure I get it perfect, no matter the frustration or the hardships I face I will get it perfect. I enjoy being a leader for my team and a role model for my team to look at for a good example for my fellow teammates to look at as not only does it push me to become better, but it makes the team better as well. Over the next couple of years I have left in school, I hope that I can become the best player in the school and I can be and hopefully bring my school a medal for the first time in its history.
