Personal Statement
My dad introduced me to the game of basketball when I was 5 years old, and I've dreamt of playing at the collegiate level ever since. Having such a long history with basketball, I've developed tremendously as a person and an athlete thanks to the game. I have a great respect for the sport which translates into my play style and my coachability. I am very coachable and respond quickly to instruction and/or criticism. On any team I'm a part of, I strive to contribute in any way that gives the team a better shot at winning. Regardless of what I'm asked to do (e.g score more, defend the best player on the opposing team, rebound more), I'm open and more importantly up to the challenge.
As a basketball player, I bring a versatile set of skills/abilities. My strongest ability is my shooting. I'm able to comfortably shoot the ball from close range and from distance, and efficiently (50% FG%). Additionally, what makes my shooting so dangerous is my ability to get off shots quick. I'm very aware of how much faster the pace of the game is at the collegiate level as it compares to High School ball and I believe my ability to shoot the ball efficiently will transition quickly in college. Another strength of my game is my ability to defend perimeter players. I'm extremely quick on my feet and have a strong core which allows me to stay in front of my man and play solid help defense. Not only am I a skilled defender but I'm also extremely confident in my abilities as a defender. I'm always ready to take on the challenge of guarding the best player on the other team and shutting him down. Finally, another one of my many strengths is my ability to move off the ball. I'm very active when I don't have the ball and do a very good job of moving with purpose. I'm always looking to get myself or teammates in better positions to score the ball. In that sense, this strength of mine not only helps myself but my teammates.
Academically, I'm very strong. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and am a member of the student government at a highly acclaimed, prestigious IB school. I study very hard and hold myself to a high standard when it comes to my performance in the classroom. I'm an ambitious student and am constantly working to be a better version of myself.
My aspirations in basketball are to play competitively at the college level and to potentially pursue a professional career. When it comes to my preferences in the college I attend, I'd like to go to a school where I can push myself in the classroom and on the basketball court. However, I am genuinely open and interested in all options and ultimately just want to play at the highest level of competition possible.
