Personal Statement
Being a student athlete from India puts me at a stereotypical disadvantage especially in the sport of basketball, which I have been trying to break with my performances on the court. Having always been doubted at every stage of my basketball career, I believe that I will be THE MOST MOTIVATED player on the team at any point in time, because I am used to having to work doubly hard to prove myself as a player. I also believe that I can contribute tremendously as a team player, being willing to undertake tasks, play out of position, rebound for teammates, and act as a motivator. I believe that my skillset lies in my basketball IQ as well as my ability to shoot the ball well as well as create good shots for myself and my teammates. Having always played as a point guard, I have learned the game as a ball distributor, rather than a score-first mentality; this allows me to always read the floor well and find the best pass, rather than settle for poor looks. While not the most athletic player on the court, I believe that I can finish well at the rim through contact, considering I have a fairly high air time, and can maintain great stability while in the air, even through physical contact.
My goal in college basketball is to not only be a part of the varsity team, but also learn and improve myself both as a basketball player and as an individual and team member. I believe that while I may not be the most talented player on the team, I will strive to prove myself and reach that level throughout the course of my collegiate career and this mentality and effort is what I believe, set me apart from any other players.
