I am 100% focused on my basketball and academic achievements. I have been playing basketball for 5 years, with 4 of those years at the representative level. Before basketball, I played representative level tennis and soccer and was a representative swimmer and track and field athlete.
For me, basketball is the ultimate sport. I love it for:
I have had the good fortune to be coached by some inspiring individuals. I've learned that every coach has something to offer and it is my responsibility to be open to their feedback. Like most people, I thrive in positive environments and I bring as much positivity and commitment as I have to training, games and other team activities.
I've had to work a little harder than most, having a birthday at the wrong time in the year for age-based divisions. I've viewed this as a challenge that I could conquer with hard work and determination and I'm very proud that I have been able to compete and succeed against my older, stronger competition. This determination will hold me in good stead as age-based advantages inevitably reduce.
My family strongly values education. I have been supported and encouraged to achieve my best academically and to use my education to make a contribution to the world. I am interested in medical science, particularly dentistry or biomedical engineering. It would be a privilege to have a personally satisfying career as a dentist, where I would have an opportunity to do pro bono work for vulnerable individuals and communities, or as a biomedical engineer.
Playing college basketball is my dream. It would take me far away from family in Sydney, Australia, but I would do it with their full support. My sole parent mother has made significant sacrifices to support me. I have every intention of repaying her faith in me and showing the same strength, courage and decency that she has modelled for me and my sister.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss opportunities with coaches who think I would be a good fit for their team.
